“It is a lie”. The Center for Public Policy and the Rada deny information about the draft law on lowering the mobilization age

The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council and the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence denied the information about the existence of a bill to reduce the mobilization age in the country, which was spread by the media today. This was reported by UNN

"The information about lowering the mobilization age and the existence of any draft laws is a lie," Andriy Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Legal Advocacy, wrote on Telegram.

Also , the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence emphasized that there is no draft law on lowering the mobilization age in the Rada.

"There were and are no draft laws to reduce the mobilization age from 25 to 18 years old either in the Verkhovna Rada or in our specialized Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence. The information disseminated in the media today is false," the committee said.

They also noted that lawmaking is the competence of the parliament. Accordingly, the parliament can talk about what legislative initiatives are being worked on.

Context

A representative of the 17th Poltava Brigade of the National Guard, Serhiy Lunych, told the online media outlet Poltavshchyna   about the draft law on lowering the age of mobilization. According to him, higher mobilization authorities allegedly instructed military units to prepare in advance for the arrival of 20-year-old recruits so that they could begin combat training without delay.

It should be noted that the publication has already been removed.  

In addition, the brigade of also responded to the publication. They pointed out that Lunych did not provide such comments. Moreover, he is no longer an authorized person to comment on draft laws or amendments to them. 

"In connection with the dissemination of inaccurate information that mentions Serhiy Lunych, a representative of the 17th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, and his alleged statement regarding the draft law on lowering the mobilization age from 25 to 18 years, we would like to inform you of the following:

Serhiy Lunych has not made any such comments! He has not been involved in media events or public appearances recently.

In addition, he is not a member of the brigade command (neither commander nor deputy) and is not an authorized person to comment on draft laws or amendments to them.

His job duties do not provide for access to information about legislative initiatives or their status, let alone predicting their approval," the team said in a statement.
