Today, March 15, in many countries of the world, environmentalists, animal rights activists, and wildlife lovers are joining events on the occasion of the International Day for the Protection of Seal Cubs (beluga whales), UNN reports.

For about two weeks after birth, while the mother is feeding it with milk, the fur of the seal remains snow-white. It is because of this fur that tens of thousands of newborn seal pups have died and continue to die every year.

Due to protests by environmentalists, the northern countries either completely banned seal hunting or severely restricted it. Officially, seal pups can only be hunted in Russia. In other countries, poachers are mercilessly fought against.

In many countries, the trade in squirrel fur is completely banned.

At the initiative of the United Nations, World Consumer Protection Day has been celebrated on March 15 since 1983.

The rapid development of industry in the nineteenth century made the problem of consumer protection a pressing one, as many consumers suffered from low-quality products from unscrupulous manufacturers.

Entrepreneurs were usually guided only by the goal of making a profit, reducing the cost of production at the expense of quality. Buyers had no guarantee that the products or medicines they purchased were safe. Manufacturers did not provide accurate information about the composition of the product on the labels, so sometimes there were cases of fatal poisoning.

For the first time, people united as consumers in England in 1871, when the Sheffield Water Consumers' Association was created in Sheffield to protest against the water tax. Soon after, consumer leagues appeared in Rome, Berlin, Paris, and New York. In Ukraine, as in most countries of the world, a movement to protect consumer rights also emerged - in 1886, the first consumer society was established in Kharkiv.

In 1960, the International Conference on Consumer Testing was held in The Hague,

It was on March 15, 1962, that U.S. President John F. Kennedy, in a speech to Congress, formulated four key consumer rights: the right to safety, the right to information, the right to choice, and the right to be heard.

Subsequently, four more were added: the right to compensation for damages, the right to consumer education, the right to basic needs, and the right to a healthy environment.

On March 15, many countries around the world hold various events to mark the Day of Police Brutality.

According to one version, the event was launched in 2000 after Swiss police beat two children.

Police brutality is a serious problem in many countries around the world. It can take many forms, including excessive use of force, unjustified arrests and detentions, verbal abuse, and psychological pressure. Police brutality is a violation of human rights and often results in serious injury or even death.

Also today, we would like to congratulate all the employees of the life support sector on the holiday.

The event honors people who work in the fields of healthcare, education, public safety, transportation, agriculture, and more. Their work, which often requires physical presence, exposes them to increased risks, especially during health crises.

Today, you can still join the World Contact Day, International Day Against Islamophobia, Contact Day, and World Speech Day.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of St. Agapius and the Seven Martyrs of Caesarea.

All of them lived in Caesarea Palestine in the third century, during the intensification of the persecution of Christians by Emperor Diocletian.

During another mockery of the Christians, six young men came out of the crowd and declared that they believed in the Lord. The local ruler tried to persuade them to recant, but the young men were adamant.

The boys were thrown into prison, where St. Agapius and his disciple were already imprisoned. Several times they were offered to renounce their faith in the Lord and worship pagan idols. All of them refused.

Agapius, his student, and the young men were brutally tortured and then executed.

Today, Alexander, Andrey, Mikhail, and Denis celebrate their name days.
