Prosecutors of the Poltava District Prosecutor's Office proved in court the guilt of a 57-year-old resident of the Poltava district in the rape of two young sisters. He was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment. The crime was uncovered and proven 13 years after it was committed. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to UNN.

In the autumn of 2023, a resident of Poltava contacted law enforcement, stating that at the age of 12, she became a victim of sexual violence by a close family acquaintance. The man was friends with her parents and frequently visited them at their summer house.
For all these years, the woman remained silent about what she had endured. She tried to cope with the trauma and worked with psychologists. Only as an adult did the victim decide to turn to law enforcement.
Last year, she went to the man, reminded him of the past events, and recorded the conversation on her mobile phone. After that, she filed a report with law enforcement agencies.
During the investigation, investigators and prosecutors established that she was not the only victim.
It was revealed that the man also raped her younger sister, who was 10 years old at the time. In addition, he molested another sister. The 9-year-old girl had told her parents about this at the time, after which the family ceased all communication with the man
The accused admitted his guilt only partially and tried to justify himself by alleging "victim-like" behavior, in his opinion, by the victims.
In court, prosecutors refuted this claim by the accused. In criminal law, an indisputable principle applies: a young child cannot independently consent to a relationship, as they lack sufficient life experience to assess the consequences. Any "consent" at a minor age is the result of manipulation and the exploitation of a child's trust by adults
After the sentence enters into legal force, the information will be entered into the Unified Register of Persons Convicted of Crimes Against the Sexual Freedom and Sexual Integrity of a Minor.
