On Sunday, July 14, border guards stopped a car with five people in Odesa region, two of whom tried to escape. One of them attacked a border guard, who responded by using a weapon, and the offender died. This was reported by the spokesman of the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, to the journalist of UNN.

According to Demchenko, the attack on the border patrol took place in Odesa region while protecting the state border.
"Yesterday evening, border guards stopped a vehicle with 4 people in it besides the driver. Two of the people fled in different directions, and later one of them attacked a border guard during the search for him. To save his life, the border guard was forced to use his weapon. He made warning shots in the direction of the attacker. The paramedics who were called to the scene recorded the death of the offender and also recorded the fact of bodily injuries to the serviceman," said Demchenko.
The SBGS spokesperson emphasized that the information spread on some media platforms that a border guard fired a gun at the fugitive was untrue.
"The State Bureau of Investigation, other law enforcement agencies and prosecutor's offices have been notified of this fact. Urgent investigative actions are underway. The servicemen were not detained. I would like to note that, unfortunately, this is not the first case of an attack on border patrols by violators along the entire length of the state border, as a result of which servicemen are forced to use weapons to save their lives and health," he added.
