According to local authorities, the two largest fires remain largely uncontrolled – each contained only about 10%.
The largest fire in Brantley County, ongoing since the beginning of the week, has already destroyed at least 87 homes and covered more than 14.8 square miles. Authorities call it the largest in the state's history.
Another fire in southern Georgia, near the border with Florida, has destroyed at least 35 homes and spread over an area of more than 46 square miles.
