The Israeli armed forces say their airstrike that killed seven humanitarian workers in Gaza was a "serious mistake.

The Israeli military has admitted that its air strikes that killed seven humanitarian workers in the Gaza Strip were the result of a "serious mistake," UNN reports, citing Voice of America.

Lieutenant General Gertzi Galevi, the commander-in-chief of the Israeli army, explained that the attack, which led to the deaths of members of the World Central Kitchen aid group, was due to "misidentification at night during military operations in very difficult conditions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that the country's troops had struck "unintentionally at innocent people.

"Unfortunately, a tragic event occurred yesterday, during which our forces unintentionally harmed non-combatants in the Gaza Strip. This happens in times of war. We are conducting a thorough investigation and are in contact with the governments. We will do everything we can to prevent this from happening again," Benjamin Netanyahu said.
