On January 1, the memory of St. Basil the Great is celebrated. It is a day full of deep spiritual meaning and folk traditions, UNN reports.

Details

St. Basil the Great was an outstanding theologian and preacher who was born into a wealthy Christian family. After receiving a brilliant education, he studied science and philosophy in Constantinople and Athens. Upon returning home, he devoted his life to serving the Church and enlightenment. Even in times of persecution of Christians, Basil remained faithful to his faith, actively preaching and creating theological works that are still of great importance.

Traditions of January 1

On St. Basil's Day, it is considered important:

- Spend time in prayer, asking for holy intercession and protection from misfortune.

- Gather the family around the festive table, reconcile and leave all the grievances behind.

- Make sure that the first person to cross the threshold of the house is a man, preferably a blond man, as this is considered a good omen for the whole year.

- During the celebration, boys traditionally sow to wish for health and well-being.
