Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation Andriy Kovalenko stated that Putin's words about 10 km to Sumy are a lie. Russian troops are more than 20 km from the city, and there is no offensive on Sumy.

The Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council analyzed the interview of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, noting in particular that Putin's statement about "10 km to Sumy" is a lie, as reported on Monday by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, writes UNN.

"10 km to Sumy" according to Putin is a lie. He generally said a lot of nonsense yesterday, but regarding the city of Sumy - since spring 2025, the Russian Federation has not advanced at all. And they are located more than 20 km from the city of Sumy, our Ukrainian Defense Forces soldiers thwarted their plans on that direction. The enemy continues to attack Sumy from the air, but there is no talk of an offensive on the city at all. Putin is a classic liar who is given false reports,"

- wrote the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, on social media.

"Another interview of Vladimir Putin with propagandist Pavlo Zarubin clearly demonstrated: the Russian dictator either finally moved into a fictional reality or holds his own population for fools," the Center for Countering Disinformation also stated.

As noted by the Center for Countering Disinformation, a significant part of the interview concerned the situation at the front. "Trying to demonstrate good awareness, Putin talked in great detail about 'successes' in specific sections of the front. However, with his absurd statements, in particular about '10 kilometers to Sumy,' he even baffled loyal Z-war correspondents," the Center for Countering Disinformation's statement reads.

"Putin applied a similar tactic of window-dressing regarding internal problems. The dictator called the fuel crisis 'non-critical,' and regarding strikes on energy facilities in the Russian Federation, he assured that 'everything is being restored quickly.' And this further fueled the panic mood of Russians, who read in Putin's words a clear signal - it is useless to hope for a solution to problems if the authorities consider them 'non-critical,'" the Center for Countering Disinformation noted.

"Putin's main goal was to calm Russians before the State Duma elections, create an illusion of control, and motivate the electorate to support the pro-government party. But propaganda once again lost to harsh reality: instead of a strong leader, Russians saw an aging ruler completely out of touch with reality," the Center for Countering Disinformation concluded.

The government's Center for Strategic Communications also analyzed the interview and named the "top 5 false statements by Putin in the interview with the Kremlin propagandist."

"During another interview with propagandist Zarubin, Putin made a number of manipulative and false statements about the war against Ukraine," the StratCom Center noted, highlighting in particular that they concerned the situation at the front and negotiations.
