Law enforcement officers served a notice of suspicion to the head of a department at a university in Kharkiv. The educator is suspected of extorting and receiving $10,000 for unimpeded admission to a master's degree program. UNN reports this with reference to the regional prosecutor's office.
Details
According to the investigation, the head of a department at a Kharkiv university demanded money for unimpeded admission to study for a master's degree.
In June of this year, when he learned about the man's desire to enter the university, the scientist said that it would cost 10 thousand US dollars.
According to the suspect, this amount, in addition to the possibility of avoiding mobilization to the Armed Forces, included “support” during the admission campaign and the solution of all “problematic issues.” In case of refusal to hand over the money, the head of the department threatened the man that he would not be able to enter a higher education institution at all.
The scientist was detained immediately after receiving the money. He was notified of suspicion of extortion and receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official (part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The issue of choosing a preventive measure against the suspect in the form of detention is currently being decided, the prosecutor's office added.
