Details

Google has fired 28 employees who protested Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion cloud contract between Israel, Google, and Amazon. Employees of the two companies claim that the agreement gives Israel access to technology that could help kill or injure Palestinians.

On Tuesday, nine employees were detained for breaking into two Google offices. In Sunnyvale, the employees refused to leave the office of Thomas Kurian, head of Google Cloud.

According to an internal memo obtained by The Verge, the fired employees were accused of disruptive behavior during the protests, including seizing office space, damaging company property, and physically interfering with their colleagues.

For reference

Under the contract, Google and Amazon will provide the Israeli government with artificial intelligence and cloud services that can be used for military and civilian purposes. Activists who call themselves No Tech For Apartheidbelieve that their work at Google will support and promote apartheid of the Palestinian people.

This is not the first time that Google employees have protested against the cooperation. In 2022, a petition against the deal was created and signed by hundreds of Google employees.
