Germany has offered NATO combat ships, fighter jets, and drones to replace US resources. The proposal includes F125 frigates, Eurofighter jets, and Heron TP drones.

Germany has offered to provide NATO with combat ships, fighter jets, and unmanned weapons systems to replace resources previously provided by the United States. This was reported by dpa, writes UNN.

Details

As the publication notes, the United States recently decided to reduce the military resources declared for the NATO Force Model — a management tool through which allies share available capabilities in the event of an attack on the Alliance.

The Trump administration also announced plans to withdraw thousands of troops from Germany, although it did not specify clear timelines for such a move.

According to the plans, Germany is to provide one F125-class frigate each for the Joint Operational Area Northwest (JOA NW), headquartered in Norfolk, and the Joint Operational Area Southeast (JOA SE), managed from Naples.

JOA SE will also gain access to the Iris-T air defense system.

According to the German military, the F125 frigate is a modern combat vessel whose tasks include maritime surveillance, embargo enforcement, and counter-piracy operations.

Additionally, two P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, equipped with radars, acoustic systems, and high-resolution optics capable of countering submarines, may be available for JOA SE.

Another eight Eurofighter fighter jets are also planned to be stationed in the northwest of the Alliance.

Among other resources Germany is ready to provide are a K130 corvette, used for maritime surveillance near the coast, as well as five Heron TP drones and two American-made MQ-9B combat drones.

In January, the Bundeswehr ordered eight such combat drones from the American manufacturer General Atomics. They are planned to be used primarily for maritime operations, with the first batch expected to be received in 2028.
