FT: Ukraine, Russia negotiate exchange of prisoners in Kursk region

After Ukraine's offensive in the Kursk region, Russia initiated negotiations on the exchange of prisoners. This was reported by the Financial Times and UNN .

It is noted that the negotiations began after  more than a week of heavy fighting in the western Kursk region of Russia. As it is known, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has already saidthat Russia has approached him to start discussing the exchange of prisoners of war.

Ukrainian military intelligence, which is negotiating prisoners of war, confirms to the Financial Times that it is working on an exchange

Kyiv does not disclose the exact number of Russian prisoners captured during the Kursk operation, but government officials and soldiers on the Kursk border told the FT that the number is in the "hundreds.

Among them are many young conscripts who were captured by Ukrainian forces at this early stage of Kyiv's stealthy invasion.

The publication reminds that earlier the Russian Federation threatened that Moscow might stop the exchange of prisoners. However, Lubinets said that his conversation with his Russian counterpart Tatyana Moskalkova gave him hope that the negotiations would continue.

Speaking to the FT, a representative of Ukraine's Internal Security Service said that SBU special forces alone had captured 102 Russian soldiers from the 488th Motorized Rifle Regiment and the Chechen Akhmat unit in Kursk Oblast.
