In the Kyiv region, air quality temporarily deteriorated in a number of settlements due to fires following an enemy strike, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported. According to Interior Minister Ivan Vygivskyi, large-scale fires are still being extinguished at five locations in the region, covering approximately 230,000 square meters; firefighting robots and helicopters have been deployed. In Kyiv, authorities managed to prevent an ammonia leak at a brewery and a gas leak at a damaged filling station, UNN reports.

After Russia's massive attack, air quality in Kyiv sharply deteriorated05.08.26, 08:01
As the regional military administration stated, "according to the results of daily average observations by monitoring stations, elevated levels of atmospheric pollution with carbon dioxide CO2 (carbon dioxide) and fine particulate matter generated by the fires were recorded in Vyshneve, Obukhiv and Brovary." "An increased concentration of fine particulate matter was also detected in Ivankiv, Boyarka and Vasylkiv," the regional military administration added.
During fires, combustion products and fine solid particles enter the air, which can negatively affect health.
This primarily concerns people with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, children, older people and pregnant women.
Until the situation improves, specialists recommend:
- keep windows closed;
- limit prolonged time spent outdoors;
- drink enough water;
- if you have an air purifier, use it at maximum power.
"At the same time, in other settlements of the Kyiv region where monitoring is being carried out, no exceedances of permissible concentrations of chemical and biological substances in the atmospheric air have been recorded. The gamma radiation level in the Kyiv region corresponds to the natural background level. Monitoring of atmospheric air quality continues around the clock in automatic mode, provided that the equipment has an uninterrupted power supply," the statement says.
As Interior Minister Vygivskyi reported, "large-scale fires are still being extinguished at five locations in the Kyiv region — since morning, the fire has covered an area of approximately 230,000 square meters. As a result of the shelling, food warehouses, logistics centers of supermarket chains and a post office — entirely civilian enterprises — were destroyed."
In Kyiv, 26 people injured in Russian strike, and one person killed05.08.26, 08:24
"In Kyiv, one person was killed as a result of the missile strike — a 60-year-old woman. At least 16 people were injured. In the first minutes after the strikes, rescuers and police officers provided first aid to the victims. The fires at all locations have already been extinguished. The State Emergency Service workers also prevented an ammonia leak at a brewery and a gas leak at a damaged filling station," the minister reported.
According to him, there is destruction in the Brovary, Bucha and Fastiv districts of the Kyiv region. "To protect the workers and bring the fire under control more quickly, we deployed firefighting robots and helicopters. A police headquarters is also operating at each location to assist citizens. Investigators are documenting the consequences of the strikes, while bomb disposal experts are removing missile fragments. In total, approximately one thousand rescuers and police officers have been involved in the work at the sites," Vygivskyi said on social media.

"I thank every employee of the Interior Ministry system who is standing alongside the people despite the risk and repeated strikes. This shelling is yet another attack that has no military purpose. And our unity is stronger than any missiles," the minister emphasized.
