Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray will resign from his post in early 2025. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.
After weeks of careful consideration, I have decided that it is the right thing for the Bureau to do if I finish the work of the current administration in January and then step down
Trump and his allies reportedly confronted Wray and the FBI after agents conducted a court-ordered search of Trump's Florida estate in 2022 to seize classified documents he left behind after leaving office.
This was the reason for one of the two federal cases brought against Trump after his resignation, neither of which ever went to trial. Trump denied wrongdoing and called all cases against him politically motivated. Federal prosecutors dropped their efforts after his election, citing the Justice Department's long-standing policy of not prosecuting sitting presidents, Reuters added.
It is noted that Trump's Republican allies have joined him in claiming that the FBI has become politicized, although there is no evidence that current US President Joe Biden has interfered with the investigative process.
Ray's term of office would not expire until 2027.
Recall
Trump says he plans to appoint Kesh Patel as the new director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
