Sergei Stadler, chief conductor and artistic director of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, died on board a flight to Istanbul. This was reported by the press service of the St. Petersburg administration, according to UNN.

According to Russian media, the man felt unwell on board a Pegasus Airlines flight bound for Istanbul. Due to this, the liner was forced to land in Bucharest.

Stadler was 63 years old. Before becoming the chief conductor and artistic director of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, he was the chief conductor of the Russian Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Conservatory Opera and Ballet Theater, and the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater.
