In the Cherkasy region, a serviceman will stand trial, accused of failing to stop at a crosswalk and hitting a child, the SBI reported on Monday, according to UNN.
SBI employees have completed the pretrial investigation regarding a serviceman who caused a road traffic accident in the Cherkasy region, resulting in injuries to a minor boy. The indictment has been sent to court,
Substance of the case
According to the SBI, in late March around 5:00 PM in one of the villages of the Cherkasy region, a serviceman driving a car was moving through the settlement at an unsafe speed and "failed to stop before an unregulated pedestrian crossing."
"At that moment, another car had already slowed down before the crosswalk to let children pass; however, the suspect ignored the road conditions and struck a 15-year-old boy. As a result of the accident, the teenager sustained serious bodily injuries, was hospitalized, and remains unconscious to this day," the SBI stated.
The vehicle, as indicated, has been seized.
"Based on the results of the check, it was established that the serviceman was sober while driving," the report says.
He is charged with violating road safety rules that caused serious bodily injury to the victim (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 8 years.
