Ursula von der Leyen stated the EU's intention to closely cooperate with Ukraine in the defense industry. She noted Ukraine's innovative potential even in wartime conditions.

The European Union intends to deepen cooperation with Ukraine in the field of the defense industry, in particular through joint projects and the development of innovative technologies. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during the NATO Defense Industries Forum, reports UNN.

According to her, Ukraine has demonstrated an exceptional level of innovation in the conditions of a full-scale war, and Europe must use this experience.

"We want to work very closely with Ukraine. Ukraine has demonstrated phenomenal innovative potential, and we must use it. We need to build up our defense capabilities quickly, smartly, and at an affordable cost, and Ukraine has proven that it can do this even under the pressure of war," von der Leyen said.

Reminder

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reported that Denmark will soon produce fuel for Ukrainian Flamingo missiles. As Europe is under pressure from the US to take more responsibility for its own defense, Europeans seek to leverage Ukraine's military expertise gained since the start of the Russian invasion.

FP-5 "Flamingo" is a modern ground-based UAV/cruise missile system manufactured by the Ukrainian company Fire Point.

The Flamingo is designed to deliver a specified combat payload of up to 1150 kg to engage ground targets with fixed topographic coordinates at a range of up to 3000 km, both day and night. The missile is capable of hitting a target even under active electronic countermeasures.

Fire Point emphasizes that the FP-5 stands out for its ease of use and low cost. It is the largest system of its class, but it remains simple to manufacture and launch. It does not require expensive launch platforms - its launchers are reusable, making deployment more economical.

Open sources indicated that the missile is built on the basis of AI-25 or AI-25TL engines, but back in March 2026, Shtilerman stated that the company is completing the development of its own engine, which will be manufactured at the company's production facilities.
