On December 16, the eBook program is expected to be launched for 18-year-old Ukrainians, First Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine Halyna Hryhorenko said at a roundtable in Kyiv on Thursday, UNN reports.
Details
"eBook... will be launched, we hope, on Monday. We know that bookstores are already at a low start and are ready to work with this. And this is one of the target priority audiences - 18-year-olds," said Grigorenko.
"But you have to start earlier. And I'm more than sure that the habit of reading with parents and the habit of reading at school is not formed at the age of 18. If at the age of 18 we add this "gift", so to speak, to a young person so that he or she can buy a book in any format, electronic, audio or paper, then we need to start much earlier," the Deputy Minister emphasized.
Addendum
According to the program, all Ukrainians who turn 18 in 2024 are entitled to financial assistance from the state to purchase books.
The amount of assistance is UAH 908 (0.3 of the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons). This means that as the subsistence minimum increases, the amount of payments will also increase.
Books will be available only in Ukrainian; the program will be open to 18-year-olds in Ukraine and abroad; paper, electronic, and audiobooks will be available; the list of bookstores and online stores participating in the program will be published on the websites of Diia and the Ukrainian Book Institute.
To receive assistance, you need:
• Enter the Action app.
• Select the eBook service.
• Open a special account to receive money.
After the funds are credited, you have to purchase the books within three months from the date of enrollment.
