Chinese authorities on Thursday, January 29, executed 11 individuals who were key figures in a cross-border criminal network involved in telecommunications fraud and gambling. These executions are the result of Beijing's large-scale campaign to eliminate criminal syndicates based in Myanmar's border regions that defrauded Chinese citizens of billions of dollars. Among those executed were leading members of the notorious Ming criminal clan, including Ming Guoping and Ming Zhenzhen, who ran a network of "fraud parks" in the Kokang border area. The Wenzhou city court found them guilty not only of financial fraud amounting to more than $1.4 billion, but also of brutal crimes: intentional murders of 14 Chinese citizens, illegal detention of people, and torture. Death sentences were handed down in September 2025 and upheld by the Supreme People's Court after appeals were rejected.
