In the coming days, the administration of US President Joe Biden will announce its latest package of assistance to Kyiv under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), using the remaining funds allocated for the purchase of new weapons for Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters with reference to sources, UNN reports.
According to one of the agency's interlocutors, the package will include air defense interceptors and artillery ammunition, but the exact content of the package will be announced in the coming days.
The package will cost about $1.2 billion.
Under the USAI program, military equipment is purchased from the defense industry or partners rather than being taken from U.S. stockpiles, which means that it can take months or years to arrive on the battlefield.
According to Reuters, since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the United States has allocated $175 billion in aid to Ukraine, including approximately $61.4 billion in security assistance. About half of this security assistance has come through the USAI program. The rest was taken from existing military stockpiles through presidential drawdown authority.
It is noted that the balance of the presidential authority to cut is $5.6 billion.
