Azov confirms Ishchenko's death in Russian captivity: cause of death is unknown

The Azov press service confirmed the death of Oleksandr Ishchenko in Russian captivity. The cause of death has not been established, and the Ombudsman demands compliance with the Geneva Conventions on prisoners of war.

The Azov press service has confirmed the information about the death of the brigade's fighter Oleksandr Ishchenko in Russian captivity. UNN reports this with reference to "Suspilne Donbass". 

Information about the death of Azov fighter Oleksandr Ishchenko in Russian captivity has been confirmed. This death is yet another act of atrocity by the Russian Federation against Azov prisoners of war. The occupying country has once again confirmed that it does not reckon with any principles of morality, disregards all possible conventions on the conduct of hostilities and the treatment of prisoners of war. While the 12th Azov Brigade replenishes the exchange fund with Russian prisoners and complies with all the rules of their detention, Russia tortures and kills our fighters every day

According to the newspaper, the copy of the death certificate issued in the Russian Federation indicates the date of death of the defender as  July 22, 2024. The medical certificate was issued three days later - on July 25, 2024. The document says "the cause of death has not been established due to putrefactive changes in the organs and tissues of the corpse".

Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the Russian Ombudsman regarding the death of Oleksandr Ishchenko in a Russian detention center. He demands compliance with the Geneva Conventions and the provision of medical care to Ukrainian prisoners of war.

"Mediazona wrote that a Ukrainian prisoner of war, Oleksandr Ishchenko, who served as a driver in the Azov regiment, died in  Detention Center 5 in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don . He was 55 years old.
