On April 5, it was reported that 45 citizens were able to return from the occupied territory of Ukraine. Most of them are elderly people, some are seriously ill and have limited mobility. This was announced by Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, writes UNN.
45 citizens of Ukraine are now in the territory controlled by the government of Ukraine. According to Lubinets, the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine, government agencies, humanitarian organizations and international partners worked on this. People came not only from TOT, but also from Russia and Belarus
The Ombudsman stressed that among the evacuees are people with limited mobility and seriously ill citizens. They could not physically leave the occupied settlements. 10 people needed urgent treatment, had severe chronic diseases. For 23 people, evacuation was organized with the involvement of specialized transport and medical support.
Most of those who returned are elderly people. The oldest Ukrainian is 93 years old.
In addition, as Lubinets added, it was possible to return Ukrainians who needed legal support and assistance because they had lost their documents and could not cross the border on their own.
Lubinets also stressed that some of these Ukrainians were persecuted by the occupation administrations. In one of these families, the father was kidnapped and tortured - he died.
The Commissioner for Human Rights notes that together with the International Charitable Foundation "Caritas Ukraine" from February to April 2025, 148 people - both adults and children - received assistance.
