The first unit of the Ukrainian Legion, which is being formed in Poland, has already left for Ukraine, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar said on Monday, December 23, in a commentary to Radio Liberty, UNN reports.
According to the ambassador, on January 10, 2025, the next volunteers will sign contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and go to the training grounds.
"This is actually a success story, which some politicians or Russian propaganda are trying to turn into a negative fact. The process, of course, we would like it to go faster, but it is going as it is. We are working to make this information publicly available in all EU countries, and possibly overseas. We can only incentivize with voluntary rewards, this is a completely voluntary unit. Our citizens who join it, I am sure, will have the appropriate satisfaction of good training," Bodnar said.
Bodnar added that the training of the first volunteer legionnaires will continue at Ukrainian training grounds.
The ambassador did not name the number of volunteers.

The first group of volunteers of the Ukrainian Legion signed contracts in Lublin and began 35 days of basic training. The recruiting center received about 700 applications from Ukrainians from all over Europe.
