The driver of the Nissan car, detained in connection with a major road accident on the highway from Odesa to Mykolaiv that killed 12 people, has been placed in custody, the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported on Wednesday, according to UNN.
Details
Today, July 7, an investigating judge of the Central District Court of Mykolaiv considered a motion from the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail on the driver of a Nissan Murano, who is suspected of committing a traffic accident that resulted in 12 deaths and 6 injuries.
The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Ihor Domushchei, who leads the group of prosecutors in the criminal proceedings, argued in court the prosecution's position regarding the need to arrest the suspect.
In his speech, he appealed to the court to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail to the suspect, citing risks that the suspect might flee from pre-trial investigation authorities and the court, or unlawfully influence victims and witnesses in the criminal proceedings.
The defense insisted on round-the-clock house arrest, and in the event of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention, to set a bail amount.
Following the court hearing, the investigating judge granted the prosecutor's motion and imposed an exclusive preventive measure on the suspect - detention for 60 days
