A state of emergency has been declared in some regions of Ecuador. This is reported by AFP, reports UNN.

Details

On Saturday, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa declared a state of emergency in several regions of the country. The reason for this step was the aggravation of the situation with organized crime and the increase in the level of violence associated with the activities of drug cartels. The decree applies to seven provinces, including the capital Quito, and will be valid for two months.

This decision came just a day before the general election, which will be of a particularly acute political nature. The main confrontation is unfolding between the current president – a representative of the right center Daniel Noboa  and his main opponent from the left flank, Luisa Gonzalez.

Under the state of emergency, basic civil liberties are restricted – in particular, mass gatherings are prohibited, and law enforcement officers receive additional powers, including the possibility of searches without a prior court decision.

Recall

In the presidential elections in Ecuador, Daniel Noboa is gaining 44.5% of the vote, and Luisa Gonzalez - 44.1%. A possible second round on April 13, if the difference remains minimal.
