In Kyiv, a doctor at a private medical center where a patient underwent surgery that subsequently caused her to lose her pregnancy has been served with a notice of suspicion, UNN reports, citing the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office.

The pre-trial investigation established that the patient, who had stored her embryos at the clinic, came for a consultation to plan a future pregnancy. She was diagnosed with uterine fibroids and a scar from a previous cesarean section, and in November 2023 she underwent surgery, which led to the formation of a second scar. At the same time, the doctor understood the risks that the presence of another scar increased the likelihood of the placenta growing into this area during a subsequent pregnancy, which could lead to uterine rupture.
The patient subsequently underwent embryo transfer; however, in April 2025, the woman’s pregnancy ended in uterine rupture, which led to the death of the fetus. An expert conclusion established that the surgical intervention performed on the patient at the private clinic was the cause of the subsequent problems with her pregnancy and led to the death of the fetus and removal of the organ.
The actions of the doctor, who ordered the surgical intervention for the patient and failed to conduct additional diagnostics before the fertilization procedure, were qualified as improper performance by a medical worker of her professional duties due to a negligent attitude toward them, which caused serious consequences for the patient.
