Since the beginning of the year, 13 Ukrainians have sought medical attention after being bitten by spiders. All the victims received the necessary medical care, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on Thursday, August 1, UNN reports.

"Of the 13 people who sought medical attention after being bitten by spiders in 2024, six were treated in a hospital. All the victims recovered, and no fatalities due to spider bites were recorded in 2024," the Ministry of Health reported.
According to the Ministry of Health, last year, 31 complaints of spider bites were registered across the country, 16 people were treated in a hospital, and no fatalities were recorded, just like in 2022.
At that time, 42 people sought medical care, 25 of whom were treated in a hospital. This is evidenced by the data registered in the EHR (electronic healthcare system) of cases of medical care for patients due to toxic effects caused by contact with poisonous animals (spider venom).
How to Recognize a Spider Bite and What to Do
A spider bite can be indicated by one or two points on the skin, pain, swelling, nausea, and symptoms of poisoning. If you are bitten by a spider, doctors recommend:
- Don't panic.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Wash the bite site with clean water and soapy water.
- Take antihistamines and anti-inflammatory drugs.
- Consult a doctor.
"In the event of a caracurta spider bite, it is important to contact an emergency medical center or the nearest medical facility as soon as possible for a doctor's consultation. Caracurta venom affects breathing and heart function, and can cause Quincke's edema," the Ministry of Health noted.
