American actor Woody Harrelson revealed how he learned about the possible close relationship between his father, Charles Harrelson, and Matthew McConaughey's mother, Mary Kathleen McConaughey. E! Online reports this, citing Harrelson's interview with Variety published on August 21, UNN writes.

Harrelson noted that he has known McConaughey's mother for more than 25 years. According to him, she once told him that she knew his father, placing particular emphasis on the word "knew."
She said to me: "I knew your father," you know, with those ellipses, "I knew... your father." So I'm thinking: "Well, it's strange that she never told me this in 25 years"
According to Harrelson, he later learned that there may have been more than just a friendship between his father and McConaughey's mother.

The possible relationship between Harrelson and McConaughey became known back in 2023. At the time, McConaughey said that his mother had made a similar confession during a shared vacation in Greece.
A few years ago in Greece, we were sitting and talking about how close we are and how close our families are. And my mom was there and said: "Woody, I knew your father." Everyone understood the ellipsis after the word "knew"
The actors also tried to establish whether their parents could have met during a period when it might have resulted in a blood relationship. According to McConaughey, they found out that Harrelson's father was on leave at approximately the same time that his parents were divorcing for the second time.
We did a little math and found that Woody's father was on leave at the same time my mom and dad were getting divorced for the second time. There are also possible receipts and locations in West Texas where a meeting—or "knowing" something—could have taken place
McConaughey and Harrelson met in the 1990s while working on the film "EDtv," and later starred together in the series "True Detective." They have still not taken a DNA test that could confirm or refute the possible relationship.
McConaughey explained that such a test would be a more difficult decision for him, since the result could call into question his understanding of his own father.
