At the Shalimov Center, a patient who had suffered from pain since childhood underwent laparoscopic surgery. Doctors discovered dangerous concretions during the examination.

A patient with a rare and life-threatening pathology – stones in the pancreas – has been operated on in Ukraine. The surgical intervention was performed at the O.O. Shalimov National Scientific Center for Surgery and Transplantology, UNN reports with reference to a post on the institution's official Facebook page.

The 29-year-old patient suffered from severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting since preschool age. Doctors examined the child, but diagnosed nothing except a gallbladder bend. She continued to suffer from symptoms until the age of 15, after which the painful sensations suddenly disappeared.

And recently, when the now adult girl underwent a routine examination, during an ultrasound, doctors saw concretions (stones) in the pancreas. They are dangerous because they disrupt the healthy activity of the gland and lead to acute pancreatitis and mechanical jaundice.

Despite the complexity of the pathology, Ukrainian doctors performed a laparoscopic operation on the patient. She stayed in the hospital for a week under medical supervision, and then the patient was discharged home.
