Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk said that the Defense Forces are creating a "security zone" in Russia near the border with Ukraine. It is planned to conduct humanitarian operations, open evacuation corridors and allow international organizations to enter. This was reported by UNN.
In order to protect the border regions of Ukraine (primarily the border of Sumy region), the Ukrainian Defense Forces are creating a security zone on the territory of the Russian Federation adjacent to the territory of Ukraine
As Ms. Vereshchuk pointed out, there are Russian civilians within the "security zone". They are protected by international humanitarian law, which Ukraine fully complies with.
Therefore, according to her, Ukraine is planning to build a "security zone" on the territory of the Russian Federation:
- conduct humanitarian operations to support civilians;
- open humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians: both in the direction of Russia and Ukraine.
- to allow international humanitarian organizations to enter the country for the purpose of humanitarian response and monitoring of the humanitarian situation.
Relevant preparations and consultations are currently underway, Vereshchuk added.
