Donald Trump's team has informed European leaders of the new administration's intention to demand a significant increase in defense spending from NATO countries - up to 5% of their GDP. This was reported by the Financial Times, according to UNN.

These plans were announced during talks with high-ranking European officials in December.
Despite Trump's previous statements about the possible termination of military support for Ukraine, the new administration intends to continue to provide aid to Kyiv. Trump is also seeking to secure greater funding for defense needs from NATO allies, exceeding the current 2% of GDP level that most allies are contributing.
Some NATO countries are already discussing an increase in spending of up to 3%. According to the sources, Trump is ready to support such a decision, but only if the US gets more favorable trade deals.
