In the coming weeks, people under the age of 18 will be banned from artificially enlarging their eyes, lips, and smoothing or changing skin tone in TikTok. This is reported by The Guardian, reports UNN.
Details
Restrictions will apply to filters like Bold Glamour, which change children's facial features in a way that makeup can't. Comic book filters that add rabbit ears or dog noses won't be affected. The billion-user social media company announced the changes during a security forum at its European headquarters in Dublin.
The use of filters has increased concerns among psychologists, educators, and parents. They fear that the constant use of such filters creates the illusion of an ideal appearance, can create a false idea of beauty and standards, which will lead to feelings of insecurity and dissatisfaction with their appearance. This can lead to low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Some teenagers, faced with reality after using filters, reported frustration with their appearance and disgust with their real appearance.
TikTok also announced that it is improving its system, which will block users under the age of 13 on the platform.

Earlier, UNN reported that the district of Columbia and 13 US states filed lawsuits against TikTok, accusing it of causing addiction and negatively affecting teenagers.
