Ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have dropped after the elimination of the US, Mexico, and Canada national teams from the playoffs. This is reported by UNN citing CNN.
Details
According to TickPick, a secondary ticket exchange, prices for the match between Spain and Belgium have fallen by 65%. The US national team could have participated in this match if they had won earlier this week.
At the same time, the recent defeat of the Mexican national team in the match against England caused a 45% drop in prices. Prices for the cheapest tickets were nearly $4,000 but have since dropped to $2,000 for Saturday's match in Miami.
Canada also exited the tournament last week, meaning all three host countries have been eliminated from the World Cup. But the defeats of the US and, especially, Mexico are bad business for "Tom’s Watch Bar," a chain of sports bars with 18 locations in the US.
However, it is not all bad for "Tom’s Watch Bar": revenue on the remaining game days will still be 25% higher than on days when the World Cup is not taking place.
According to the Beer Institute, beer sales in bars and restaurants have increased by 6.4% over the past four weeks. In host cities, beer sales rose by 14% compared to the same period last year.
