A State Department spokesman says that NATO members may put forward policy proposals at the upcoming summit, in response to the Polish prime minister's desire to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine with NATO's consent.

The US State Department has admitted that the issue of the potential possibility of shooting down Russian missiles flying towards Poland in Ukrainian airspace could be discussed at the NATO summit in Washington. This was stated by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller at a briefing on July 8, UNN reports.

This is how the State Department spokesman commented on Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's words that he wants to be able to shoot down Russian missiles moving towards Poland and do so over Ukrainian airspace, but added that he needs the consent of NATO or some other international body.

When it comes to U.S. policy or NATO policy, I don't have any changes that I can announce today, but obviously whenever a NATO member wants to raise a policy issue, they have the opportunity to do so and discuss it with other heads of state. They will have a summit this week, and I am sure that this is something that can be discussed if they want to do so

- Miller said when asked if he thought it was an idea worth discussing.
