The largest US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford left the port of Split in Croatia after a five-day visit. This is reported by UNN with reference to a number of foreign media.
Details
It is known that the ship was in Split from March 28 to April 2, 2026. During its stay, the aircraft carrier underwent scheduled repairs and replenishment of supplies, after which it went to sea again.
The American side did not disclose where the aircraft carrier is heading after leaving Croatia. At the same time, the Navy stated that the USS Gerald R. Ford is ready for further missions.
According to Reuters, the aircraft carrier arrived in Croatia following the aftermath of a non-combat fire that occurred on board on March 12 in the main laundry room. At that time, according to the agency, three sailors were injured, and almost 200 crew members received assistance due to smoke exposure. The fire also affected about 100 sleeping berths.
Before entering Croatia, the ship was in Suda Bay, Crete, where it also underwent maintenance and replenishment of supplies. The American military noted that the investigation into the causes of the fire is ongoing.
As Stars and Stripes writes, after its stay in Split, the aircraft carrier returned to full service. The publication also notes that this deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford could be one of the longest for a ship of this class.
