The European Union is concerned about attempts by representatives of the regime in Moscow to link Ukraine to the recent terrorist attack in the Moscow region, rejecting this and urging Russia not to use the attack as a pretext for escalating aggression against Ukraine or internal repression. This was stated by the European Commission's spokesperson for foreign policy Peter Stano during a briefing in Brussels on Monday, UNN reports.

Naturally, we are concerned by indications from representatives of the regime in Moscow who are trying to create a link between this attack and Ukraine. Of course, we reject entirely. There are no indications, no proof whatsoever that Ukraine was in any way linked to this attack

- Stano said.

The European Commission's spokesperson for foreign policy said that the Russian government is urged "not to use this terrorist attack in Moscow as a pretext or the motivation to increase the illegal aggression against Ukraine nor to use it as a pretext for the increase internal repressions."

Addendum

After the attack, Putin said that the "attackers" were allegedly heading for the Ukrainian border before being detained. His comments came after ISIS had already claimed responsibility. The Presidential Administration stated that Ukraine had nothing to do with what happened in the Crocus City Center near Moscow. The US stated that there are no signs of Ukraine's involvement.

The terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow region, killed at least 137 people, making it the deadliest attack in Russia in two decades.
