The Czech Cabinet of Ministers, as expected, approved a bill on a complete ban of mobile phones and gadgets in educational institutions, initiated by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Minister of Education Robert Plaga, reports UNN citing Radio Prague.
As the head of the Czech cabinet stated at a press conference, the government issued a positive conclusion on this amendment to the education law. During the discussion, Children's Ombudsman Martin Beneš spoke out against the reform, calling strict regulation excessive, as schools can already introduce similar limits through internal regulations.
In response to this criticism, Czech Minister of Education Robert Plaga called on the ombudsman to personally visit schools where restrictions during breaks are already in place, expressing confidence that this would make him change his mind.

The restriction is to take effect on September 1, 2027. The complete taboo on smartphones will affect kindergartens, general education schools, as well as the lower grades of gymnasiums and conservatories. Notably, gadgets will not be allowed not only during lessons and breaks, but also in canteens, after-school programs, and school clubs. Exceptions to the rules will apply to children who need gadgets for medical reasons or due to special educational needs — for example, for continuous monitoring of blood sugar levels in diabetes or as a compensatory aid. In addition, schools will be able to make allowances and permit the use of mobile phones or tablets directly for educational purposes, as well as during school excursions and trips.
