"The Supreme Court has upheld the sentence of a man who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for premeditated murder committed with extreme cruelty (paragraph 4, part 2, article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement reads.
Prosecutors reportedly proved that "in June 2019, the defendant, being near a ravine on Lysa Hora in Kharkiv, struck his acquaintance numerous times on the head on the basis of personal hostile relations." The attacker was 16 years old at the time.
"Believing that the injuries inflicted were not enough to cause the girl's death, the boy took out a knife he had with him and stabbed her several times in different parts of the victim's body, after which she died. Being sure that the girl was dead, the boy buried her body in a ravine on Lysa Hora near the house where he lived. The victim's body was found only on July 9, and she was identified by a tattoo on her leg," the prosecutor's office said.
The court found the offender guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. The defense disagreed and filed an appeal, requesting that the sentence be reduced to 12 years. The appeal upheld the decision of the first instance court . Disagreeing, the convict's defense counsel filed a cassation appeal, asking to overturn the decisions and order a new trial in the first instance court.
"The Supreme Court has put an end to this case: the convict's lawyer was denied the cassation appeal, the decisions of the first and appellate instances were upheld," the prosecutor's office said.
