American Michael Sullivan was awarded $ 1 million after 27 years of wrongful imprisonment, writes UNN with reference to the BBC.
Details
Michael Sullivan spent more than 27 years in a Massachusetts prison in the United States for a murder in which he claimed for years that he did not commit it. He was released in 2013 after a new trial, and new DNA technology proved his innocence.
Earlier this month, Sullivan received $13 million from the state, although Massachusetts rules limit the reward for wrongful conviction to $1 million.
Sullivan, who lost his mother and four siblings while in prison, says the money "will never make up for the years" he lost.
