South Korea detained a flagless cargo ship suspected of violating UN sanctions against the DPRK. It was allegedly heading to Russia. This was reported by Yonhap, according to UNN.
Details
It is noted that the 3,000-ton cargo ship DEYI, which was reportedly heading to Russia from North Korea via China, was seized in the waters of Yeosu.
There were 13 people on board, including the Chinese captain and other Chinese and Indonesian crew members.
Our government is conducting an investigation, in close coordination with the United States, into the alleged violation of UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea by the vessel in question,
The official did not provide any further details.
The newspaper also reports that it is not yet known whether the ship was involved in any activities that violate the sanctions. The authorities have been unable to confirm what the ship is carrying because the crew refuses to open the cargo hold.
