South Korea plans to hold a trilateral summit with Japan and China in May. This is reported by Kyodo News, according to UNN.

Details

South Korea is preparing to resume a trilateral summit with Japan and China in May, diplomatic sources said Thursday.

South Korea, which leads this trilateral dialog, has previously tried to hold a summit in 2023.

The last time such a summit was held was in December 2019.

Tensions between Tokyo and Seoul escalated in 2018 after the South Korean Supreme Court ruled on compensation for forced labor during Japan's colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula in 1910-1945.

At the summit, the leaders are expected to discuss economic cooperation and regional issues, including North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. South Korea and Japan hope to use China's influence on Pyongyang to resolve problems related to North Korea.
