If none of the nine candidates receives a majority of votes, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will advance to the second round of elections. It is scheduled for April 6.
Reportedly, Parliament Speaker and leader of the Hlas party Peter Pellegrini, who is supported by the main ruling Smer party, and former foreign minister and diplomat Ivan Korčok, a non-partisan candidate supported by most opposition parties, have a significant lead over the other candidates. However, Pellegrini is said to remain the favorite.
Every Slovak citizen who turns 18 on election day can vote for the president. You can vote only on the territory of Slovakia.
Slovaks will decide who will replace President Zuzana Chaputova. Last June, Chaputova announced that she would not run for a second term.
