Ukraine could potentially receive up to $5 billion if the US Congress approves a bill on the confiscation of Russian assets (the REPO bill). This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting, UNN reports.
Shmyhal reminded that the House of Representatives has approved a bill to help Ukraine. The bill includes almost $61 billion, of which $49.9 billion is defense spending.
"We have received assurances that the draft law will quickly pass through the Senate, be signed and come into force," Shmyhal said.
According to him, the lower house of Congress also passed a law on the confiscation of Russian sovereign assets.
"The relevant powers will be given to the US President. Potentially, this could give Ukraine up to $5 billion, which is currently under American jurisdiction," Shmyhal said.
