Two Romanian army F-16 fighter jets were scrambled on Wednesday night to monitor national airspace after an alert was issued in the Tulcea county area amid a new drone attack by Russian drones on targets in Ukraine, near the Romanian border, Romania's Ministry of National Defense said on Wednesday, UNN reported.

"On the night of July 23-24, Russian troops carried out a new series of drone attacks on certain targets in Ukraine, near the border with Romania, in Tulcea County. As a result of the situation, the Romanian Ministry of National Defense stepped up monitoring and surveillance of the national airspace, using the forces and means of the Air Police combat service. At 2:19 a.m., two Romanian Air Force F-16s took off from the 86th Borca Air Base to monitor the air situation. The two planes returned to the base around 4:20 am," the Romanian Defense Ministry said.
It is also stated that the National Military Command Center informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the measures to alert the population of Tulcea County.
"The Romanian Ministry of National Defense has ordered to take measures to conduct on-site investigations in the vicinity of Plaura to search for possible objects that fell on the territory of the country, the search will continue throughout the day," the Romanian Defense Ministry said.
It is also noted that "as of 3:45 a.m., all affected areas announced the termination of high alert measures".
The Romanian Defense Ministry, as noted, "informs allied structures in real time about the situation that has arisen as a result of the attack, remaining in constant contact with them.
