Despite active demands from large companies for employees to return to offices, remote and hybrid work remain a persistent global trend. New research indicates that after a sharp decline in 2023, the remote format has actually stabilized and become the new norm for many countries. This is reported by the Global Survey of Working Arrangements in its study, writes UNN.
Details
According to the global study Global Survey of Working Arrangements, which covered over 16,000 workers from 40 countries, the average amount of work from home worldwide has stabilized at approximately 1.3 working days per week. The most common model has become hybrid work, where employees combine working in the office and at home.
The highest rates of remote work were recorded in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia, while Asian countries remain the most office-oriented.
In the USA, the number of employees working from home has even increased
At the same time, US statistics show the opposite effect of campaigns to bring staff back to offices. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2025, 34.9% of full-time employees worked from home at least part of the working day. A year earlier, this figure was 33.4%.
Experts note that this does not necessarily mean an increase in the number of fully remote positions. Rather, it is about employers becoming more flexible regarding the number of days employees must spend in the office.
Educated workers work remotely much more often
Remote work remains most common among people with higher education. In the USA, over 56% of such workers work from home at least part of the day, while among people with only secondary education, this figure is about 19%.
A similar trend is recorded by international studies: the opportunity to work remotely is primarily available to specialists in IT, finance, consulting, education, and other professions where most processes can be performed online.
Companies are forced to adapt
Despite the demands of many corporations for employees to return to offices after the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers note that the hybrid format has already become an integral part of the modern labor market. It affects not only the organization of companies' work but also the development of cities, transport infrastructure, and commercial real estate.
Experts predict that in the coming years, the hybrid model will remain the main form of work organization in most developed economies of the world.
