In the capital of South Korea, Seoul, the heaviest November snowfall fell since the beginning of accounting more than a century ago, the Meteorological Agency reported, writes UNN with reference to Al Jazeera.

Details

Bad weather caused traffic jams, de-energization and cancellation of hundreds of flights, as the authorities prepared for a new snowfall in the coming days.

According to the Meteorological Administration of Korea, 20 cm of snow fell in the northern regions of Seoul and surrounding areas, compared with Seoul's previous record of 12.4 cm on November 28, 1972.

This is the highest rate in November since the office established observation points in 1907.

It is reported that at least two people were identified who died in road accidents on the highway east of the capital. Several pedestrians were injured in Seoul due to debris from buildings and construction sites falling due to strong winds.

In addition, due to bad weather, several power lines were damaged, which caused the de-energization of thousands of households in several districts of the capital and the central region.

However, not only the capital suffered. The storm covered most of the country, with about 10-23 CM of snow falling in the central, eastern and southwestern regions.

More than 200 flights were canceled or delayed, most of them domestic, as airports across the country faced severe weather conditions, including strong winds, and at least 70 ferries serving the islands were suspended.

President Yoon Sok Yule called on officials to "minimize potential damage and inconvenience to the public caused by snow" as heavy snowfall is expected to last until Thursday morning.
