The Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian agent in the Khmelnytskyi region. The perpetrator was gathering coordinates for a new series of missile and drone attacks on the region, reports UNN citing the SBU.
Details
The detainee turned out to be a 22-year-old student from Kharkiv who moved to the western region of Ukraine after the start of the full-scale war. He was recruited by Russian special services when he prepared a list of geolocations of potential targets for enemy strikes and sent it to a specialized Russian chatbot.
Among the targets in this list were electrical substations, logistics warehouses, industrial workshops, administrative buildings, and reserve command posts of the Defense Forces. The suspect also rented a car, which he used to drive around the city to monitor and report to his handler in the Russian Federation about the consequences of previous shelling of Khmelnytskyi. The agent sent the collected information to a Russian special service officer via a messenger with markings of Ukrainian objects on Google Maps
After his detention, a Russian passport issued before the start of the full-scale invasion was found and seized from him, as well as a smartphone with evidence of working for the enemy.
The detainee was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The suspect is currently in custody without the right to bail, facing life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Reminder
The SBU detained two more agents of Russian special services in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The perpetrators were directing Russian missile and drone attacks on the region's energy infrastructure - one of the key thermal power plants.
