The Ukrainian PEN has compiled a list of the best Ukrainian books published in Ukraine over the year - from December 2023 to December 2024, writes UNN.

The current list of books includes prose and poetry novelties, translations, drama, non-fiction, works for children, art editions and humanities.
This year's selection includes 201 books.
Among fiction, the following were highlighted:
- Andrukhovych Sofiia. Katananhe (Komubook)
- Hadzhiiev Rustam. The Orange Shaggy Cloud (Vikhola) (reprint)
- Amelina Viktoriia. Testimony (Vydavnytstvo Staroho Leva).
- Blyzniuk Dmytro. On the Other Side of the Ashes (Herda)
- Atkinson Kate. Temples of Mirth / Translated by Iaroslava Strikha (Nash format)
- Byatt Antonia Susan. The Children's Book / Translated from English by Iaroslava and Maksym Strikha (Tempora)
In the non-fiction genre, the top five were:
- Andriievska Diana, Hart Nadiia, Shvydchenko Tetiana. The Capital Kyiv. How Our Elite Fought, Created and Misbehaved 100 Years Ago (Stylet i stylos)
- Belei Les. Point U: Stories of the Ongoing War (Komubook)

- Hordiienko Dmytro. The Birth of Eastern Europe: Ukrainian Transformations (Dukh i Litera)

The best children's literature was recognized as:
- Andrusiak Ivan. Elephant-Grass. Mischievous Poems / Illustrations by Anna Ptakha (Mahura)
- Artemenko Mariia. The Lion Book / Illustrations by Olena Buhrenkova (Artbuks)
- Arda Philip, Mantle Ben. Bunny Sledding. A Crazy Christmas Story / Translated by Mariiana Savka (Vydavnytstvo Staroho Leva)
- Blackwood Sage. Jinx / Translated by Iryna Bondarenko (Navchalna knyha - Bohdan)
- Birzul Olha. Your Book About Cinema (Vydavnytstvo Staroho Leva)
Among art editions, the following were highlighted:

"With this list, we want to thank the Ukrainian publishers, writers, compilers, translators, editors, journalists, illustrators, playwrights, scholars and all those who help literature and the book industry in our country to continue and develop in these difficult times of war," the organization noted.

BBC Ukraine named the winners of the 20th literary prize "Book of the Year BBC 2024" in three categories. Each winner will receive a £1,000 prize, and publishers will be able to use the prize logo.
