Russian invaders have twice unsuccessfully tried to repair the damaged shunt reactor at ZNPP. Energoatom warns of risks due to unskilled actions of the occupiers.

Russian occupants continue to destroy equipment at Zaporizhzhya NPP, Energoatom said on Monday, UNN reports.

"Rashists are once again proving their professional incompetence at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP," the NNEGC noted.

According to Energoatom, "the invaders tried to repair the damaged shunt reactor of OHL-750kV Dniprovska, which is installed at the 750kV switchgear of ZNPP. The reactor is connected to one of the overhead lines that supplies Zaporizhzhia NPP with electricity for its own needs from the government-controlled territory of Ukraine.

"After completing the 'repair' of the shunt reactor, which the occupiers have been carrying out since November 23, they tried to switch it on twice, and both times the reactor was shut down by longitudinal and transverse differential protection. All these actions were carried out by the occupiers without any approval or permission from the Ukrainian power grid's RDC, which is a gross violation of regulatory documents, affects and can lead to a complete loss of power supply for NPPs' own needs with the subsequent development of a nuclear or radiation accident," Energoatom said.

According to the NNEGC, this once again demonstrates the occupiers' inability not only to guarantee the safe operation of the equipment and perform its maintenance in a timely manner, but also the lack of qualified personnel to carry out repairs.

Due to their own incompetence, the occupiers continue to cripple the equipment of Zaporizhzhia NPP. We receive evidence of equipment degradation almost every day. The last example also speaks to the ongoing disorder in the organization of work at ZNPP. The invaders turned it into a military base, and incompetent people are responsible for nuclear and radiation safety. All this leads to uncontrolled events that can have a significant impact on NPP safety

- said Energoatom CEO Petro Kotin.

He emphasized that it is necessary to resume the transmission of data on what is happening at Zaporizhzhya NPP to the official operator Energoatom, the regulator and the IAEA as soon as possible.
