The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine allocates a fifth of its budget for the purchase of military equipment and weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by Deputy Defense Minister Yuriy Dzhyhyr in an interview with ArmyInform, according to UNN.
Details
Dzhyhyr explained that the 2024 Defense Ministry budget can be divided into three large packages. This is the approach used by NATO countries to categorize their defense spending.
"So the first and largest package is cash support and combat payments. The second package is the purchase of weapons and military equipment," he said.
According to the deputy minister, the second package accounts for more than 20% of the defense budget.
"That is, 20% is a certain NATO benchmark for spending on military equipment. Given the war in Ukraine, some of our neighbors, who also border the aggressor country, have been spending a much larger share on weapons and military equipment in recent years. The amounts, in short, are indicative," said Dzhyhyr.
Dzhyhyr said that UAH 265.4 billion has been allocated to meet the military's needs for high-quality equipment and weapons.
"I would like to emphasize that these figures are indicative. The needs in the defense sector are dynamic and are constantly updated by the General Staff depending on the combat situation," the Deputy Defense Minister noted.
